As the Alumni of United World College, the two UWC Alumni - Diego Angemi (UWC-USA alumnus) and Laura Piñeiro Nogueira (UWC – Li Po Chun alumnus) - wanted to provide the great opportunities that they gained from UWC experiences to the communities. During their time in Vientiane capital, they founded that there was no UWC committee of Laos and they have a vision that the differences that Lao students have in terms of educational, cultural and family backgrounds would make a great contribution to UWC community. Hence UWC National Committee of Laos was officially founded in 2013.  

UWC Lao PDR is a group of volunteers including UWC alumni, Laotian, and foreigners who come and work together on the purpose of giving the educational opportunity to Lao students. Since 2013, UWC Lao PDR has sent  34 students from 6 different provinces to 12 UWCs in Armenia, Canada, China Germany, Italy, India, Norway, the Netherlands, Singapore, Thailand, East Africa, and the United Kingdom.
